Sprint, Hurdle & Jump Coaches

Doug Mitchell

Doug has been spearheading Chebucto Athletics’ programs for 35 years. Recognized as one of the outstanding track and field administrators in the country, he has seen many of his charges distinguish themselves at provincial, national and international championships. Doug, himself, has been named to Canada’s track teams for the Commonwealth Games, World Junior and Pan-Am junior competitions.


Angela Weeks

Angela became a Chebucto athlete in 1985. Coached by Doug, she was a high jumper, long jumper, triple jumper, sprinter and hurdler. Angela participated in Legion Nationals and competed for Nova Scotia at Canada Games. In her four years on Dalhousie University’s track team, she won several AUS titles. When her daughter became involved in track and field, Angela began coaching and officiating to give back to the sport that provided her so many opportunities. Angela still loves to train and competes as a masters athlete under the Chebucto Athletics banner.


Distance Coaches

Jonathan Peverill

Jonathan is a former cross country and middle-distance track athlete who competed for the Saint Mary’s University Huskies from 2014 to 2019. During his time with the Huskies, he was a two-time AUS gold medallist in the 4x800m relay and competed at both the U Sports National Cross Country and Track & Field Championships. He has been an assistant coach with the Huskies Cross Country and Track & Field teams since 2019 and distance coach with Chebucto Athletics since 2020. Jonathan focuses on the well-being of the athlete first and foremost, and helping to develop physical and mental resiliency.


Ian MacDonald

Ian is a former cross country and middle-distance track athlete who competed for the Saint Mary’s University Huskies from 2014 to 2019. He has been an assistant coach with the Huskies cross country and middle-distance track teams since 2019 and with Chebucto Athletics since May 2021. Ian promotes a healthy and positive environment and focuses on long term athlete development and injury prevention.
